Omega Man

BACKGROUND

Omega Man was first inspired by the amazing heavy-as-a-really-fucking-heavy thing Omega Granophyre amp software by Neural DSP. I wrote the main riff as soon as I plugged in and fired it up. Then I got to know the campy 70's sci fi thriller movie of the same name. The song is about the themes in that movie (which was later remade as I Am Legend). This is definitely the heaviest-sounding Embers track to date. I hope you like it!

LYRICS:

You left it all behind you
There's no one left to blame
They're all dead and lost in the wreckage
But something else remains

Omega Man
Omega Man

They are the cult of mutation
And you hunt them down like game
They want you burned at the stake, a heretic
The Family will reign

Omega Man
Omega Man

And now your blood is the serum
You are the cure for the pain
But you've been betrayed; she turned against you
Will humanity remain?

THE MUSIC

As I’ve mentioned, this was instantly inspired when I first plugged into the Omega Granophyre plugin and started messing about.  I had also recently gotten the fantastic Drop detuner pedal from Digitech, and took the riff down to what would be "drop A", using my amazing custom-built OD Venus and my Strandberg Prog 7 to layer tones.  This time, I used the incredible GGD Modern and Massive kit, using some incredible tips from Nolly Getgood for the drum mix.  There are some super-layered vocal choral-type harmonies that start the song (and come back in the C section) that were super fun to record as well.  The bass was my first time recording using the absolutely crushing DjinnBass from Submission Audio.  I can't recommend it enough for heavy music.  In the verses, I focused a lot on getting the bass and drum beat super tight in a sort of Djenty way, with thinner call-and-response guitars playing somewhat dissonant, angular voicings to create tension.  The choruses are big and beefy, and the C section layers in some airy clean chorused arpeggiated guitars along with the choral vocal reprise.  All in all, it was fun to fully embrace a much heavier style of production, which served the song in my opinion.  Enjoy!
